Email Deliverability Term

Hard Bounce

A permanent email delivery failure due to an invalid address.

Definition

A hard bounce occurs when an email cannot be delivered due to a permanent reason, such as the recipient address not existing, the domain not existing, or the email server permanently rejecting the message. Hard bounces should be immediately removed from your mailing list as continuing to send to them damages your sender reputation. Common causes include typos in email addresses, deleted accounts, and invalid domains.
