Email Deliverability Term

Email Blacklist

A list of IP addresses or domains blocked for sending spam.

Definition

An email blacklist (also called blocklist or DNSBL) is a real-time database of IP addresses or domains that have been identified as sources of spam. Major blacklists include Spamhaus, Barracuda, and SpamCop. When your IP or domain appears on a blacklist, many mail servers will reject or filter your emails. Getting blacklisted usually results from high bounce rates, spam complaints, or hitting spam traps. Removal requires identifying and fixing the underlying issue, then requesting delisting.
