Email Deliverability Term

SPF (Sender Policy Framework)

An email authentication method that specifies which servers can send email for your domain.

Definition

SPF (Sender Policy Framework) is a DNS-based email authentication protocol that allows domain owners to specify which mail servers are authorized to send email on behalf of their domain. When a receiving server gets an email, it checks the SPF record in DNS to verify the sending server is authorized. SPF helps prevent email spoofing and improves deliverability. An SPF record is a TXT record that lists authorized IP addresses and includes mechanisms like "include:" for third-party services.
